Who is self-hosted Naimi actually for?
Teams that already run their own services and like it that way: agencies with infra discipline, companies with data-residency requirements, tinkerers who want to customize everything. If the words “docker compose” make someone on your team smile, you qualify.
If they don’t — take the cloud. It is the same product with zero maintenance, and the free plan needs no payment at all.
What’s the difference between the Team and Scale editions?
Storage, and who they’re built for. Team edition keeps data in plain files (JSON / SQLite) — one container, nothing else to run, trivial to inspect and customize. That covers a solo founder or a small team completely. Scale edition runs on PostgreSQL and is built for org-wide use: many concurrent users, real traffic, proper backups. If you’re asking which one you need, it’s Team. The lineup may grow — storage and scale are the axis.
How is this different from the free kit on GitHub?
The kit on GitHub is the authoring side — real templates plus the agent skills that build and preview them. It’s free, public, and stays that way. What you buy here is the server: personalized per-client links, open and view-time tracking, notifications, client memory, team accounts, the API — running on your hardware. The kit creates presentations; the server is what makes them sellable.
What exactly do I get for $149?
Full source of the Naimi server (Team edition), deploy configs for Docker, Railway and a plain VM, and 12 months of updates. One payment covers your company’s own use — no per-seat fees, no phone-home.
What happens after the 12 months of updates?
Your installation keeps working forever — nothing expires or locks. You simply stop receiving new versions. If you want another year of updates later, renew for the same price.
What support comes with it?
Community support and the documentation, honestly. Both editions are built to be boring to operate — but if you need guaranteed hand-holding, the managed cloud is where we can truly be responsible for your uptime. Scale edition buyers get a real deployment conversation before purchase.
Can I move between cloud and self-hosted?
Yes, in both directions. Templates and client data export cleanly, and the API is identical, so your agent workflows don’t change at all.
Can I modify the source? Can I resell it?
Modify — yes, that’s half the point: the license covers your company’s own use, and file-based storage makes the Team edition especially easy to bend. Resell Naimi itself as a competing service — no; the source-available license is explicit about that one thing. Everything else is yours to change.
Why sell this at all instead of pushing everyone to the subscription?
Because the authoring kit is already public on GitHub, and a determined engineer could rebuild the server side. We’d rather sell you the finished, tested system for the price of a team lunch than pretend the option doesn’t exist. Self-hosting is a real choice — it’s just not the lazy one.
